The practice of it got ugly not just because of the spam and scams, but the reactions to it as well. Too many people complained about the casinos after never playing them. Many claimed they were scammed (in general chat) when they hadn't even been on the same screen as the casino runner.

Fair enough. I suppose there were some that did it just for the fun of it... but there are plenty of naive, math-illiterate players out there. While being scammed by a casino is somewhat pathetic, it's still someone being scammed.
On that note... if further casinos are run "On the sly," what will players that were scammed by them (the dishonest ones) do? I can't help but wonder whether or not it would be harder for players to get compensation for being scammed at such things now that they shouldn't even exist. Will both perpetrators and victims be banned? I don't really know, but I do wonder...
I also wonder if dishonest Casinos are the reason that this practice was implemented. People complaining to GMs that their money was taken (which they ought to expect) is enough of a reason to just ban the whole ordeal.
This is pure speculation, but hey, I can't help it, and I wonder if I'm seeing anywhere near the root of the issue...
