A lot of that spyware is installed using ActiveX controls that IE just lets run (unless you want it to prompt you about just about every little thing which gets annoying). Mozilla handles that stuff a lot better (actually pretty much all other browsers do). Mozilla just has fewer exploitable issues. :)
