The Eth bug is gone as of 1.10. It reduces defense by -25%, so it's still good, but not the uber exploit as it was in 1.09.

As for advice? I'll go with the standard half-assed answer: whatever you need to fill in holes in your gear. ;) There's leech (both kinds if needed), elemental damage, magic find. If you can find or trade for them, the 40ED/15IAS jewels would be nice to have.
