Some news related to this (I didn't ant to start a new thread for this).
I don't know how much news from the rest of the world you read or see in the US, but in France this secular example there was a huge protest against gay marriage this weekend.
Even though there is a majority of French who are in favour of this, this protest was pretty big.
A combination (and this is interesting because it confirms what I always say) of Right wing extremists, muslim extremists from the banlieueus and christian extremists from the country side, plus some more conservative politicians found eachother in this shared sentiment againts gay marriage.
(it would be interesting to evaluate this with representatives of these groups
)Anyway, to sho that although France has certain laws like it being illegal to wear a Burqa it doesn't mean there is no freedom of speech or freedom to believe in whatever you want. There is just a line drawn between what is bothering or damaging other people and what is your personal business. But as you can see there is a part of the population that has no problems with deciding for other people how to run their lives. (the usual suspects)
