Maybe put restrictions on who can post what based on timeline? Is it possible to prevent people from posting pictures until X amount of time has passed? (subject to personal requests to post information of course) It might curb this. Just thinking about adding a step in the process to make it more annoying for potential spammers.
The forum already has the ability to disable showing posted images, but right now it doesn't distinguish between smilies and external content. It'd be nice to split those into separate categories, so that members can block external images without breaking smilies. That'd at least cut down on accidental loads of unwanted images, especially if showing external images defaulted to false for guests/new members.
For Mozilla users, there's also the sledgehammer approach of disabling images from third party sites. Breaks ad servers, and should break unwanted external images here, too. Of course, some corporate sites are so broken that they display wrong when you block third party images.
