Question, is apple pie really American? What is the significance behind identifying this particular fruit and pastry dessert with traditional American family values? Why not cake? Why not cookies? Why pie? Why!?

The origin of that phrase is clear as day. The domesticated apple has that most American of qualities: it was made in China. ;)
