How do I cast spells/repair items?

I know, I know, incredibly lame question, eh?

But I just found my old Diablo disks after moving and have not yet come across the manual and even after much button hitting and pointing and clicking, I cannot figure out how to cast spells or repair items!!

Scrolls I can use. But casting a spell from my spell list is still escaping me.

You cast spells (and use skills) by right clicking. For spells that need to be targetted, such as Fireball, simply right-click on the target. For spells with no target, like Healing, just right-clicking anywhere will do.

1) Start a game with your character.
2) Press [S]. A string of spell icons should appear on your screen.
3) Hover your cursor over a spell or skill you might want to use. Press [F5]. That spell is now assigned to the F5 hotkey.
4) Repeat step 3 with different spells (assuming you have more than one) assigning them to F6, F7, and F8.
5) Press the appropriate hotkey to select the active spell.
5b) If you want to quickly cast a spell that you don't have hotkeyed, press [S] and leftclick on the icon of that spell, and it will be selected as the active spell.
6) Any time you rightclick on the field of battle, the active spell is cast.

Ah, I remember when you could find the solution to any problem by pressing F1.

Now, you have to resort to teh interwebs. How times change.
