Crazy, some no name guild from out of nowhere does it first.
Everyone, myself included, always thought it would be Fury, or Conquest. They've been the first to do these things serverwide in the past, and Fury was definately the farthest one in BWL pretty consistently.
'Grats go to Drama, I suppose.

Conquest played on Kilrogg, where the majority of my characters live. They haven't been seen or heard in months.
Their webpage has comments along the lines of "lacking high-end content" and "going back to EQ". Some of their players have stayed and moved into other guilds, and at least one account has been sold. They never really progressed beyond MC, if you look at the account that was sold you see a full set of Tier 2 epics - that's from the days when those dropped in MC.
Conquest is pretty much a spent force in WoW. Fury or NA would have been my bets for first Nefarion kill.

Saw an interesting comment on the Blizz WoW forums. Someone said "I hope one of their guys goes and talks to the Prince in DM now to find out how to get Ashbringer. I'm curious about Legendary number 3."
Now, I wasn't aware there was any connection here... anyone have some info?

pre BWL Rag and Onyxia were the only mobs to drop Tier 2 items.
And to look at some of Drama's memeber's gear, it gave me hope. They weren't really decked out much better than my guild is.

I was there too, joining in the 1 Million level 1 march or i mean celebrating "Drama's" accomplishments. We crashed the server i believe and i think it caused a rollback. I saw the head of Nefarian but got no buff :(. When i got back on the server the head was gone and apparently a Drama member said they still had the head. I am guessing they waited until the hundreds of level 1's disappeared.
I also inspected there gear and was less than impressed. Most of my present guild is better decked out than some of the Drama members i was inspecting. We are up to Firemaw in BWL and this gives us hope as well :)

I got my Belt of Transcendence from Barron Geddon before the loot tables were changed. Until around last march, most Tier 2 items dropped in Molten Core, except perhaps the robes and maybe another item or two. The loot tables were changed when Blizzard decided they wanted to have BWL be the place where most people got their Tier 2 items. However, if you were in an early heavy raiding guild like Conquest that also cascaded instances, it's conceivable that you could've equiped most of your guild with tier 2 items early on.

I don't know what the hotfix was about, but we noticed that there were about thirty known chinese farmers, all hunters, in Maraudan this evening. I wonder if there was an expoit found involving it.
Oh, and word from a GM guildmate is that the scuttlebutt around the office is that the kill was legitimate as far as they can tell from the logs. I guess the raid designer is eating crow, because I gather that Nefarian was basically designed not to be able to be beaten at all right now, but obviously people figured out how to do it. One tidbit of info on how this was done: The main tank had over 13,000 life from all kinds of buffs that were thrown on him.

Hotfix confirmed to be to the Nefarian encounter. The race for the first legit kill is apparently still on.

The question is, what was wrong with the encounter that required a hotfix. SO far the only theory I saw was that Nefarian didn't use any of his abilities, and acted very similar to the Onyxia encounter.

Ask and ye shall receive.
The encounter had pathing issues, apparently. There were a number of places you could stand that would cause the various mobs (drakanoids, skeles, Nefarian) to go into evade mode that would effectively take them out of combat.
So... check this, you could crowd control the entire encounter by selectively aggroing mobs and setting them back and forth between evade mode. There's no question this was an exploit. Blizz did the right thing with the hotfix in my book.

Blizzard has either tained two legitimate kills with this hotfix of a known exploit OR they freaked out that two guilds were able to get past the extremely difficult phase 1 and move onto the much easier phases 2 and 3 of the fight.
Either way, someone did a disservice to the wow community and I'm not sure if it was Blizzard or one of the two guilds that downed him.
Also, this is for Mongojerry: On our first ragnaros kill our MT had gone around getting as many HP buffs as possible and didn't log in until we went into MC to kill him. Now that flasks last through death we had a flask of the titans on him. Fully raid buffed: 12,000 HP.
It was a fearsome sight.
