Salvador Dali (full name: Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali y Domenech) was born today, on May 11, in Figueras in Catalonia (Spain) in 1904. The excentric Dali is one of the most iridescent, charismatic personalities in modern art, and he's certainly the most popular representative of the art form known as "Surrealism" because of his brilliant and appealing visual style, along with Giorgio de Chirico, Rene Magritte and Max Ernst. Almost everyone in the world probably knows the "melting clocks" in his image "La Persistance de la Memoire" from 1931:
