Mercs and Rune words

Can Mercs use Rune words? Like bramble, it has throns, if i give it to my might merc does he get 2 aura or can he only have 1 going on at once? or does it have the effect of having like a paladin in the group when you don't have the rune word?

Heck, a merc can have 3 auras on: Thorns(bramble), holy freeze/fire (Doom/HoJ), as well as their natural aura.

All will function normally, and the animation around the merc's feet will cycle through each aura to show that there is more than one aura in effect.
