Taking a break from raiding
#1
Most of you know that my warrior's quest to finish her quest for Quel'Serrar has been highly unsuccessful, thus far. I missed one attempt as I was stuck on the blood gathering part of the Onyxia questline and couldn't find a group for UBRS in time to finish it before the raid. I missed the next attempt as I ended up in the doctor's office for almost the whole day (missed the raid by 45 minutes or so). And then there was today where we planned to go after Onyxia, didn't have the personnel for the attempt and so just threw in the towel. The run has been rescheduled for Saturday, which I can't make since I'll probably still be at the Huskies game on Saturday. Thus, after nearly a month of pushing my warrior toward being able to do this quest, I still haven't even seen a single attempt of Onyxia toward getting this done. This quest has been something I've really looked forward to time and time again, only to have my hopes dashed every time. So I've got to say, I'm frustrated.

I'm writing this because today's event (or non-event) has made me realize that I really shouldn't be spending as much time at this as I am. Today I had to basically throw away the whole day and just sit around at my girlfriend's house, waiting for this Onyxia attempt, in order to be around for it. I have a band practice (for the HMB veteran/alumni band game) tonight and I knew there was no way I'd be able to drive through rush-hour traffic to get to practice from home had I stayed there for the attempt. Thus, I stayed up here, alone in the house since everyone else was off at work, away from everything productive that I could have done, and waited for the raid to start. It didn't.

When all of this planning and waiting culminated in nothing, it made me realize that I shouldn't put so much time into something like this. I should be out there, spending time looking for a job, not waiting for a raid to start. Especially now that I'm getting over my eye infection and feel more up to putting in the hard work of finding a job, I feel that needs to become the priority. August and September have been busy for me, preventing me from putting in a concerted effort for looking for a job, and so I've been able to play a lot. However, after the V/A game on Saturday, my schedule will be wiped clean, leaving me with nothing preventing me from throwing myself, full force, into the job search.

What this means for the game is that you'll probably be seeing a lot less of me during the day. In addition, due to the fact that I live on the West Coast I will probably be more likely to be late or miss the big 40-person raids since they have been starting at 4:30 (meaning I need to be online around 4:00), my time, which generally sits right in the middle of the afternoon and has been interrupting my dinners for the last month or so. I might be able to make some of them, but I'm pretty sure I'll be busy for at least the beginnings of some of the raids.

All in all, I'm frustrated, disappointed and a bit burned out with raiding in the game and I'm feeling more pressure to find a job so that's what I'm going to do. :(

I figured I should let you guys know. I'll keep you updated on how the job search goes. :)

Hey, I think we all understand! Real life first. Game life second.

And sorry to hear about your problems getting into Ony's lair. I'm runnin into the same problem myself, i'm just never around for them! Though you've got more of a reason to go than just to go. I know that blade has been calling your name for a while now. I can only imagine how big a drag it is to still not have even attempted to temper the blade.

Luck finding a job. And once you've got that, Luck gettin into Ony's lair.

TD, you told me all this in whispers last night and I'll miss you very much. But yes! You have to get on with the rest of your life. You're at a transitional point. If you are as bright, thorough, considerate and as much of a team player in RL as you are in game, you're going to go far.

BUT, you will be missed here. Come see us as often as you can, and for God's sake, if you find that this was just a post made from bitter disappointment, don't be embarrassed. We will all be glad to see you.

So glad you did finally get your sword. I can't wait to see it and was hoping for some screenshots today. <hint!>

For what it's worth Dragoon, that's a similar situation that I had. I spent this summer unemployed and had a lot of time to play while waiting for my job opportunity to show up. Fortunately, I did find a job so I need to resign myself to playing a lot less and shifting my game schedule around to fit my job.

Good luck with your job search, and we'll see you around. Everything will still be here when you get back, no worries ^_^

Skybreak was invited to Critical Mass' Onyxia run last night :)
Trade yourself in for the perfect one. No one needs to know that you feel you've been ruined!

Oh believe me, it'll be coming. However, I'm still not back at my own computer yet so I don't have access to the vast majority of the screenshots. Perhaps tomorrow I'll be able to put things together. :)
