David Brevik & his New Game
#1
So.. this is kind of awkward. Usually I post into threads some snarky comments, being the heckler from the back benches that I am. Wink

In any case, I've gotten a bit nostalgic recently. Playing D3: RoS again. Though this time with a controller in hand on my PS4. I like it. Listening to the old soundtrack of D1 and D2 while doing that. Blizzard did a surprising good job in adapting the gameplay experience to a console.

But that is not the reason I've come here. I was wondering if anyone here knows about David Brevik's new game: It Lurks Below?

He's announced it recently. It's an indie effort, everything done by himself: engine, sound. music, art. It looks like Starbound, but has the random item and monster generation from his previous work. He's done some closed betas already and plans to release the game sometime this year.

Steam page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/697550...rks_Below/

And that leads me to the main reason of this: the man himself! What an interesting character. Before this announcement he was a name in a credits list for me. But he has given some insight into his career. I've begun to comb the internet for his talks and interviews.

And this is what I found.

GDC talk, post mortem of Diablo: https://youtu.be/VscdPA6sUkc (probably old news for folks here..)

IGN interview: https://youtu.be/4D_bVgplit0 (this was amazing!)

And he's streamed gameplay from his new game on twitch.tv:

And his wife also streams various games. Recently from his new game, with him reading from chat and answering questions(!):

The last bit needs some fair warning. It's definitely not for children, because they both take their live audience very seriously and interact with them, so the twitch audience being the twitch audience, (im)mature themes come up. But it's interesting for me, because David sometimes tells stories ("story time!") that are very insightful about all sorts of things. Old times at Blizzard North, being a developer, how he works, etc.

In conclusion I wanted to leave that here, if anyone is interested.

Interesting stuff. I'm not a fan of the retropixel look, but everything else about it looks like it may have potential.

I played the game. It's fun, it reminds me of the good ol' days with Diablo I.

I had no idea David Brevik made a new game last year. I thought that guy is a has-been after the Marvel Heroes flop.
