Router IP config?

I have a wireless router that Ive had for well over a year now, and over the winter just stopped working. Since then Ive changed residence, but still have a cable modem connection through the same company. I think its an issue with my IP address....is there a way that I can change my IP with XP so that I can access the router to get it to transfer the info via the router versus a direct computer plug in?
