Nobbie's Classic Style Mod comes with some of the .txt files separately should you wish to pick and choose which changes you want; ISTR runes.txt being separate, so you could get the ladder-only runewords that way.
If you want to fight the diablo clone and have a shot at an annihilus, you'll have to look at something like PlugY, and turn off all the other features you don't want (the stash being the main one).
