I don't know if you now have to pay for apprentice level though. I haven't checked with my newest character who hasn't chosen any profession yet.

Edit: Yep, apprentice you have to pay for too, but it's only 10c and 10c really isn't much to a level 5 character. Journeyman is 5 silver, Expert is 50 silver, and the artisan (as stated above) is the 5 gold.
Edit Again: Secondary skills cost 1 silver for Apprentice, not the 10 copper like the primary professions.
