With the Lord of the Rings movies, my response to the Extended versions and their seamless inclusion of the additional footage was always:
"How could they POSSIBLY have left that out?!"
Whereas my response to the superficial changes of the remade Star Wars movies was always:
"Why the hell did they bother putting that in?"
Adding more icing to the cake... at the expense of the cake, some might say.
