Roman Legionaries

Before we begin to do a discussion that have already been done I will do a short recap of the present variant rules:



Build rules:

All characters must seek to max block chance and will thus need to pump dexterity.

Centurion (paladin class): Basically an aura paladin. Must have multiple functional auras so he can switch "tactics" after what is needed in the moment. All grossly magical skills like Fist of the Heavens, Holy Bolt and Blessed Hammer are barred. Holy Fire/Frost/Shock are barred too. Holy Shield is forbidden due to it's blatant christian imagery.
The centurion will lead the march and would thus have to be built with toughness in mind.

Legionaire (barbarian class): Must seek to max Sword Mastery and Throwing Mastery. They are forbidden to use Leap, Leap attack and Whirlwind since these skills cause them to abandon formation. They are also forbidden the use of Double Swing, Double Throw and Frenzy since they always have to wear a shield.
Warcries should be kept at a minimum though they might put a few points here too.

Standard Bearer (druid class): The standard bearer must max at least one spirit. Besides this they are in charge of the artillery so they can use skills like Firestorm (greek fire), Molten Boulder, Fissure and Armageddon (catapults and Ballistae).

If mercenaries are to be used these must be act 1 mercenaries. The cannot use plate armor or helmets that cover the face.

Item rules:

All characters must use the standardised armament of the roman legion. They must have and use all of the following equipment. When I mention a normal item type I also mean it's exceptional and elite versions.

The equipment of a legionaire is:
Javelins (all types).
A gladius (short sword, falchion or war sword).
A tower shield.
A medium non-chain armor (studded leather/scale mail/splint mail)
A helmet.
Gloves, boots, belts and jewelery is up to the individual.

The equipment of a centurion is:
A gladius (short sword, falchion or war sword).
A ceremonial rod (gnarled staff).
A scutum (any shield that is round) or a tower shield.
A breast plate or splint mail.
A crested helmet (crown).
Gloves, boots, belts and jewelery is up to the individual.

The equipment of a standard bearer is:
The standard of the Roman Empire (a long staff, battle staff or war staff).
A gladius (shor sword, falchion or war sword).
A scutum (any shield that is round) or a tower shield.
A breast plate or splint mail.
A wolf pelt or spirit pelt (no bird helms or antlers).
Gloves, boots, belts and jewelery is up to the individual.



Gameplay rules:

The shield is your lifeline. Shields must be kept up and ready at all times. The standard bearer is obviously excepted from this rule.
Roman legionaires don't madly charge forward like any other barbarian horde. They must march forward in formation. Running is generally disallowed, especially in battle.

When in the field the legionaires must keep in formation. The centurion leads the march and decides the formation. Legionaires should ideally soften up an enemy unit with javelins while closing in.

The standard bearer must be protected at all times. All measures must be taken to prevent the roman standard to fall in the clutches of the enemy.



At the start of the campaign all characters may be twinked a set of standard roman armament, all of non-magical nature. Besides this all twinking is forbidden.
