A lot of Wizards do not seem to run Signature Spells in my experience. Then again, my experience is softcore 
Still, Viral is hardly isolated in his distaste for them, as it is not an uncommon approach. Personally, I still use them, but I also choose to play with Elective turned off; turning it on just seems like easy mode.
