Not that I'm in the beta or anything, but....
Diablo 1 had much less of ..... pretty much everything and was still going strong up till the time the Open D2 beta started, which was what.... 3 years into the game?
Diablo 2 also had less of everything than Diablo 3 seems to have, although more than Diablo 1, and yet people played it for years and years religiously and en masse. Many still play, after 11 years.
I don't really see why you'd make that conclusion, except that you are so used to the type of endgame progression that WOW offers, that you already forgot what the Diablo series offers.
People love loot and love to slaughter mobs. This will offer droves of both and do it better than similar games from other companies.
Add PVP, a 4th difficulty, lots of other features/improvements, an eventual X-Pack (or two) and I don't see why this game will not be played by millions for at least 2-3 years... unless of course it is much worse in comparison to the previous versions.
IMO, the 12 month sub with a free D3 is not so that people can come back to WOW after D3 seemlessly, but to squeeze out as much out of a dying game as Blizzard can. Granted, even dying, WOW is still the best game out there, at least for now. No matter how you slice it or dice it though, the game is 7 years old, and it is all regurgitated content. WOW was an amazing game, but nothing lasts forever. Blizzard recognizes this fact.
