The "misfortune" I keep referring too is in the misunderstanding, and that is what makes the joke "funny".

I think the problem here is that you're changing the definition of misfortune so that it fits your theory.

Two atoms are walking down the street one day, and one of them says to the other:

"Hey, wait up a second. I think I lost an electron"

The first atom replied, "Are you sure?"

The second atom exclaimed, "Yes, I'm positive!"
