Of course but most of the time stories are inconsistent. Especially to make 'the final scene' original film makers come up with a ' oh yeah and the main character has that ability' kind of moment.
About Lost: that smoke monster somehow didn't really fit in.
the first series where exciting enouigh without it....the Polar bears and the others were mistery enough.
