Decades before "The Office" there was "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin".
To me, best show ever*, even better than the subsequent (unrelated) "Black Adder" series.
Sadly, I don't know if RP ever made it to DVD. . . . but evidently people still remember him! Here's a CNN link that refers to a real apparent-drowning victim who recently appeared at a police station after 5 years missing:
