I think they need to go one step further though. I would like to see current focus on series hybrid vehicles, the combustion engine used at constant speed for electricity generation only. This allows the engine to operate at peak efficiency and also makes transition to even more alternate fuels much easier. It also makes it easier to replace combustion with battery storage as mass produced batteries become better and better.
