One of my PnP gaming buddies of the female persuasion is sort of an expert on "female" gaming. She's got a book about this coming out, and she could explain this a lot better than I can, but from what I gather current games are more closely aligned with the male reward system in our culture than the female reward system. Take a look at Sheri's interview:

I'll be sure to plug her book here when it comes out. In the meantime, she just got hired by Sony to work as a designer on Star Wars Galaxies :) and another project she can't tell me about :(
