Player gets banned from WoW using

Players got banned for using a coin with a conjuction with a keyboard. Neither coins nor keyboards are restricted objects, yet sticking one into one of your movement keys in Alterac Valley will probably get you at least a warning.

As we have seen before, Blizzard is not really against addons and 3rd party programs, but rather against actions that conflict with their "vision" of the game, whether they involve a complex keylogger or a simple coin.

Now, I might not agree with their "vision" or their methods, but that is why the ban will stay permanent. This has nothing to do with Linux, but the player simply should have been a bit smarter as to how they have used the macro feature of their keyboard. Yes, it's a shame, but it is not surprising in the bit.

Yeah this has nothing to do with Linux and everything to do with the fact that with this third party app (the keyboard is hardware and maybe the macro logic is too, so you are getting grey but you can get stand alone apps that will do the same thing, make it so that you press the y key and it will do a whole bunch of instructions and that is a 3rd party app) was letting him "play" the game while AFK.

The only thing he needed to do was get a veriable speed motor and spend a minute or two setting it up so that it would hit whatever key (or even keys) he wanted it to hit and skill up his weapons while he was in another room or out to the store, or what not. This can easily be simulated through software as well if you don't want the external mechanical addition and you could even have some randomness too it.

Sure it's a pretty benign use of 'unfair play' but it is unfair play none the less. Linux had nothing to do with it and if the guy can't see that, oh well.

Yeah, Linux has nothing to do with this...it was auto-training his skills while watching TV.

He was not banned for usin Linux.
He was no banned for using a programmable keyboard.

He was banned for letting that programmable keyboard PLAY FOR HIM while he was away from the game (regardless of his physical location). He wasn't paying enough attention to see repeated messages from a GM, yet was somehow able to spend hours levelling up his weapon skill. That's game automation, and bannable.
