Builds/Variants in 1.10 - GrassDragon - 10-30-2003

I'm fairly new at Diablo, I've had my copy for a while but stopped playing in anticipation of 1.10. Now that its up, I need a few ideas for builds/variants. I don't mind (and actually enjoy) them being next to impossible to play in the early levels, but I would like them to be quite powerful once they get higher up (such as NM). Also my ability to find items seems incredibly low (maybe I'm just not lucky enough :D ) so if these builds could be played with little to no items, that would be nice.

Just trying to fill my days.

In my experience, untwinked FA amazons are super hard. Imagine that your most powerful spell for taking on the Council is Cold Arrow. Yes, it is hard. It's nice when you hit level 30 though.

I'll try the FA Zon. In the last couple of days I've been playing a Poison Necromancer, only P Dagger, PE, and P Nova. It is VERY hard up to lvl 30, at which point the 20-something pints of synergy make P Nova quite powerful.

Continuing with the near-impossible.

The realms beyond site is dedicated to variants and alternate play styles. You might look around there for some ideas. A lot of the styles listed there have been around since before 1.09, so you might find difficulty with some of their expectations due to changes is skill strengths, but it's still an interesting place to start thinking from. You can find the site here.

Sounds to me like you need to make the most out of synergies so check out where the numbers are best for each of the characters. Ignore what the Arreat Summit gives - you'll need to look at individual skill trees in game.

For a paladin, you'll find that the highest numbers are for Holy Bolt: +50% magic damage from both Blessed Hammer and Fist of the Heavens plus 15% healing from Prayer. That adds up to a tremendous amount of damage against undead but not a lot else so you'll need to fall back on your merc but at least you'll be able to keep him alive with the Holy Bolts you're firing at him. Him, because you're sticking to a theme and he's Prayer too (Act 2 Normal Combat).

Whilst you're in Act 2 recruiting him, shop Drognan for 2-socket sceptres for skill adders and "Strength" for Crushing Blow. Pally shields you'll have to find on your travels but start cubing up diamonds early for that 4-socket special and your resists will be sorted through to Hell.

That was the plan behind my first HC realms character back in 1.09 and he made Guardian. With the new synergies in 1.10, I'd have to say a medic is even more viable now that you can run Meditation for both life and mana regeneration.

Some fun builds:

The Thorn-A-Din! Watch your opponents suicide on you!

The Cleric! Abuse Holy bolt, Meditation, and Fist of the Heavens! With such amazing skills, you can even play naked!

The Furysin! An assasin specialising in Blade Fury, and a great affection for poleaxes.

The Cry Baby! A barbarian who does not invest in anything but War Cries!
