strange issue with the music / sound - Fragbait - 05-17-2004

Hail fellow lurkers,

I recently discovered a strange thing with the DII sound effects. Having the opinion that DII is less atmospheric than DI, I tried to compensate this by turning up the volume of the music and reducing sfx. Strangely though, everytime I tried to turn down the sound effects the music volume diminished, too! Tried various settings, always the same outcome. What can I do to hear loud(er) music and gentle sound effects?
This correlation is confirmed for LoD 1.10 and DII 1.06b, which I'm playing at the moment.
Any thoughts?

Greetings, Fragbait

The sound slider effects both the sound and music, so if you turn down the sound, everything becomes quieter. In order to hear the music but not the sound, turn the sound far down, turn the music all the way up, and turn the volume on the speakers up. You will probably always hear sound effects but turning the sound and music as far as they go you can make the music much louder.

I guess my main point is to change your speaker volume and move sound and music as far as they go.

Hi minionman,

Sorry to say, but that doesn't help at all!
If I do as you suggest, all I get is no sound at all (sound lever at min) or next to no sound at all (near min). If I turn up my speakers and the volume of waves and cdaudios in the windows volume control, the only outcome is that I have greater steps in volume increase. At every setting it's much louder than before, but that concerns the sfx as well as the music, so the loud sfx are drowning out the nice ambiance music again. You simply cannot divide them apart, ironically except the option to turn DOWN the music of course... :(
Oh well. Any other suggestions?

Greetings, Fragbait

Do you usually have the music volume all the way up? If so, then you can't really do anything to get the music louder. Turning music up compared to sound should make music louder compared to effects, but I guess you hit the limit. Sorry it didn't work.
