3d Modeling can be mind blowing - Munkay - 12-20-2004 I happened upon this website: http://raph.com/3dartists/artgallery/ag-ii1.html **Nudity Warning** (There are some nude male and female models, nothing pornographic in nature though) And couldn't help but be blown away by the 3d modeling. I've always been relatively impressed by CGI animation/images. But I've always been able to tell the difference between a computer generated image and a real one without any thought. Some of these had me second guessing. It's still not perfect, but its remarkable. Here are a few that I found to be impressive (I have not explored the entire site yet) Woman Mechanical Doohicky Helicopter City Rally Car Room Display Room Flower Screws Some of these were made almost 5 years ago, in 2000! Cheers, Munk 3d Modeling can be mind blowing - Urza-DSF - 12-20-2004 Damn! I'm almost not convinced that the "Rally Car" and "Screws" are actually not photos...that is insanely realistic. The only problem is getting that kind of quality into a larger-scale animation...though with 3d animation once one part was done it's done for every use. On a similar note, there is a new movie that Square-Enix has put out streight to DVD: FF7: Advent Children. Following the story after the events of the game, the entire movie is CG and frankly some of the most beautiful artwork that I've seen. Still need to pick up the movie, but there has been news of limited theater screenings with overwhelming praise. Link below for screens and trailers. Unfortunatly in Japanese other than the navigation menus. My 3D image on Raph.com ist quite old, though (from 2000). I 'll have to make a new, better one with one of the fancy brand-new renderers with "global illumination" and such :) By the way, I now have a renderer that can do "fur" on 3D surfaces. I should try how that looks on a "Lurker Lounge" logo ;) 3d Modeling can be mind blowing - AtomicKitKat - 12-22-2004 Wow. I took an animation course last year, and it took me the better part of 6 sessions of a couple hours each to do a so-so 30 second animation, using only the most basic tools(and the instructor had to help me out with the final bit where music was spliced with the image) I might try to get it up here sometime. |
