MMOG Subscription Chart - nobbie - 06-14-2005

I just saw this interesting MMOG subscription chart which shows the actual number of active subscribers of all main MMOG's on the market as of June 2005. It's pretty interesting. Note the extremely steep ramp of WOW.

It's extremely interesting also to note that Ultima Online has pretty much stayed low on the chart since it's launch. This has got to be the only games market where you can make good money on less than a quarter million customers.

Don't forget when UO broke 100,000 subscriptions it was considered phenomenal. That was a cool million a month Origin (err, EA) started raking in, minus whatever it cost them to run the game. Not many game companies are gonna argue with a stable source of income, considering the time it takes for one development to just put out one game anymore.

Edit: for those that don't know, MMOGChart.com is the source of that image, and has older versions and different (smaller) scales charted also.
