Does anyone here play Sacred? - Taem - 11-22-2005

I bought Sacred "Gold" about three months ago but never really had time to play it until recently (all my "free" time was spent playing Doom 3). About three weeks ago I found myself getting too stressed out while playing Doom 3 so I decided to try something else for relaxiation and started up Sacred Gold. I must say that since I started playing it, I haven’t been able to put the game down! It reminds me so much of Diablo in so many ways that it could be what a Diablo World would be like! And it's an enormous world to explore, allowing you to ride animals and use portals to travel from area to area. One of the best things about this game is that the multiplayer is FREE - not to mention the game is relatively cheap too. In multiplayer, your characters can be OPEN or REALM, similar in regards to D2 with REALM characters being saved on a "hack-free" server. This game seems to me like everything Diablo 2 was striving for but never fully reached.

I wonder how many lurkers here are currently trying this game out? My main problem comming into this game is that the statistical information on skills, spells, monster stat's, etc., can only be found on hardcore fan sites which are primarily German. Sure the basic information can be found in English, but if you want to know something like how fast your attack speed is using "so-and-so" a weapon, good-luck! If any lurkers know of an English Sacred fan site with formula or general useful information (other than the site I linked), I'd be very pleased if you were to share this information with me.

Thanks ahead of time for any replies.

P.S., I'm shocked more Lurkers aren't raving about this game! IMO, if you liked Diablo 1 or 2 but haven't tried this game out yet, there is a good chance you will really take a liking to it! I believe there was a limited-time free trial download of the game at IGN.com, however I don't know if it's still available and forgot to check before writing this - will check after work. For me anyways, it was well worth the $20.00 I paid for it!

$20!
I paid $25 just last week!!

And, despite how fun the game may be, silver is next to immpossible if you don't actually know how anything works, and even then half the enemies OR MORE scale as you level!
Running through the desert as a level 15 most of the orcs are level 15-17, come back later as a level 20 to defeat the... a... quest... and most of the orcs are now level 20-22! Thankfully the evil undead dr... quest... doesn't scale with you.

The Wood Elf has 2 skills that are quite interesting when paired up. Take the Amazons Multi-shot and make it a duration skill (so all arrows you fire for X seconds split into seperate arrows) and add Guided Arrow. Comepletely awesome when you make a combo-skill out of it (1 multiple shot + 3 Penetrating shots) Currently my combo launches 12 guided arrows, and since combo's and regular skills recharge independantly I can the skip over to my regular Penetrating shot skill and launch a couple more flurries of 4 arrows each! MUHUHAHAHAHA
Let's just say that kills most anything on the screen.

All in all fun game. But not too far yet.

Hi.
I played Sacred online extensively for several months. I never played the expansion; I would have except that I play WoW now and it takes up all of my gaming time. I will try to answer any questions you might have, but my info might be out of date. Here are a couple of links that might be helpful.

I played it for about a week recently. It was alright, better than Beyond Divinity. However, beyond a week, I found it to be too monotoneus.

I played the downloadable version of Sacred using each of the two available character types allowed for about a month. Maxxed both the characters as far as what you are allowed to explore.

Verdict: Sacred is a D2 clone (albeit with beautiful graphics).

There is no way you can compare Sacred with the original Diablo. The original Diablo is all about strategy, tactics, placement of obstructions and characters, holding doorways/arches, controlling the number of foes as they attack, slow, well-developed character/armor/spell development, ....

There is simply no way you can compare Sacred with Diablo1. They don't play in even a remotely similar fashion.

Similar to D2, yes. Similar to D1, not a chance.

I've been having a blast with a Dark Elf putting most of my skill points into Blade Combat and Duel Weilding as I level. I've been trading every rune skill's I can find for Sudden Fury and Rage! Without knowing exact information to make good decisions on items or fighting monsters, the game can be a little challenging, but I've been having too much fun to notice.

Uhm... :blushes: I clicked on the "Sacred Fans" link and it took me to a parent directory without any information in it, but I clicked the film.wmv file and was quite shocked - I was at work! Anyways, thank's for the links.

Did I compare Sacred to D1? I don't remember but I really don't think so. I believe I said that if you enjoyed D1 or D2, there was a good chance you would find this game enjoyable. But perhaps you are offering your own observation of the game, in which case I would also enjoy hearing what other's think about this game - thank's for your input.

I do agree with you about Diablo 1 being more strategy oriented without a doubt. I do like how, other than the skills you recieve every level, you can find special runes (very similar to D1's Spell Book's) and right click them to increase your power with that skill. Other than that D1 and Sacred are very different animals.

I was not at my home computer when I posted those and didn't take the time to click the links in the Basin thread myself. They used to be Sacred links. I apologize. The Ancaria locations link seems to be ok. Again, I apologize.

I played Sacred a lot until WoW came out. I completed Niobium difficulty. The best forum is here. It is very like DII but with better graphics as Meat said.

Does anyone here play Sacred? - Attika - 11-25-2005

I believe when you say things like this:

"IMO, if you liked Diablo 1 or 2 but haven't tried this game out yet, there is a good chance you will really take a liking to it!"

then you really are making a comparison between the two games and the enjoyment you will derive from playing them.

After all, for what reason would you enjoy playing the two games that you make reference to? Because . . . the games are similar or play similarly? Otherwise, why compare them at all?

BTW, if you like Sacred, you should also check out Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity, two other well-made Diablo2 clones. DD is in the remaindered bins for like $10. BDD is just out and probably pretty $$ still. The graphics aren't _quite_ up to Sacred's standard, but they are close.

Divine Divinity is a great single player game.

DD really was a nice game. BD is a POS with worse graphics and gameplay than the original. Go figure. Luckily, I bought it on Ebay for $8.

I thought DD and BD were single-player games, so perhaps are not strictly comparable.

Sacred is so much like DII (it has socketed items and Macic Find, for example) you wonder how they got away with it. It's difficult to say which is better. Sacred's graphics obviously, its open-ended huge world like WoW's, its humour (I like the way your character gets lippy with you if you're afk), and being able to fight on horseback. Drawbacks are the bugs (I haven't played the expansion so they may have fixed the worst by now) and the way they've "balanced" the game by giving all formulae diminishing returns, so that high level characters are effectively all the same.

I really cant see that. I loved D1 but I think strategy and tactics comments are perhaps overstaments. Tactics were rudimentary and strategy was practically non-existant. I do agree about the character development though.

The tactical elements were extrmely repetative, but I think what was more important was the play style. It was mostly about control as you said as opposed to D2 which was more about power.

I bought the game last year, soon after it came out. (I am still a sucker for Diablo style games.. :P )

I played through the SP story with a Wood Elf, and tried out a couple of other characters. It has a lot of potential, and beats the crap out of Dungeon Siege. The story isn't too bad, and I am thinking about the Underworld expansion.

It did get a bit sameish after a while, and i don't think that I've played it more than a few hours this year. (This year *was* a bit hectic for me - family and work stuff got a bit out of hand).

Well worth $20 for the full game though. Its still about $60 here in Australia - hopefully into the bargain bin after Christmas :)
