Why?

Because it picks up little details like Area 51, the White House lawn, and my crappy shed.

And this test missile flying around Utah. Canada, you've got incoming

Oh fer crying out loud it aint a missile.

It is an airplane. LOOK. You can even see the black wings in the front and back, and the black nosecone.

Missiles don't have dual jet engines bolted to the sides. If you follow the contrail, it leads back to the bloody airport.

Hah, thanks Doc. Nobody, not even myself, on the board I picked this up from noticed it was a plane.

Consider my foot lodged firmly in mouth.

Aww, it was alot more exciting when it was a cruise missile. Dang.

ZOMG security risk! What diabolical use could the evil villains of the world use Google maps for?

From Google Earth, here is a missile launch site. Do you know what country it is?

Well, you can actually see Area 51. Search for "Rachel, Nevada" then scroll west some ways. The first sign you'll see is an airstrip across a salt lake.

The area directly north and southwest of the base is pretty interesting too.

Actually, it works just fine to type in "Area 51" in the search too.
I wonder what I would get if I typed "aliens". Hmm.
