This sounds like the stuff of a Bond film: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/200...a-lte041008.php

...or a blatant parody thereof.

Let's be fair, if you've got a laser powerful enough to trigger a lightning strike, its energy is better deployed by aiming it directly at whatever you want destroyed.

Man-made lightning? It's good they already made Back to the Future, or else there wouldn't be much of a dramatic climax at the end of the movie.

Makes you wonder, though, if Doc Brown ever mulled over the possibility that the lightning bolt might just strike the clock tower at 10:04 and 38 seconds.

Or do I just go the Doc McKay route and mutter "Don't even get me started on that movie..."

Ben Franklin would approve. (I think)

So they were able to cause electrical activity in clouds during the middle of a thunder storm? Yes... that is truly remarkable! I think I did the same thing once by saying "Let's go ahead and finish the 9th hole."

I prefer the McGyver method with a spool of fine copper wire and a model rocket.

P.S. No Deebye! Don't do this at home!

Did you have a one iron for protection?

Only a 3.;)

I have a few rules regarding club selection tailored to my swing:

1) Every golf club except putter hits the ball about 150 yards give on a full swing.
2) Whatever trajectory the club (excluding putter) is expected to provide is about 30 degrees greater than the actual expected trajectory.

Conclusion: With a 1 iron I would expect to hit the ball 150 yards with a subterranean flight path.

It's not for hitting the ball, it's for the Lee Trevino lightning protection scheme;)

Ha. I know I've heard that one before but it didn't come to mind.
