I suspect we may be making runs over the next few days, as necessary.  Something must be done about Van Cleef.

It will be a little while before I am of sufficient level to take on VC.

I personally will not be around until about 9PM tonight so if you're looking for a priest and Tutelin isn't around the cavalry will arrive around 9. Just to let you all know.

I may not be around so much over the next few days after tonight but good luck with taking this bugger out. He's a good fight.

Holy old thread revival, Batman. Actually, posting in this might scare people - from what I understand, it's a lot easier to get VC now. AFAIK the miners are no longer elite, so it no longer requires such a long time and effort to get to him.

He went down pretty easily, but not without two wipes of our party (one in the instance and one outside). I was glad to do it within a week of starting retail. Westfall once again is safe.

I have to say that I had an absolute blast on that run. I kind of felt like the little brother dragged along to the party with the big guys, but I don't think I did too bad. If anyone wants to have a go again, I would love to run it again. I think I only have one step left to get the quest for his head so this time it would actually count for me. ;)

There was one bad thing about that session though. It was WAY too much fun. I am so addicted to this. I actually contemplated not going to bed today. I had all these Westfall quests that I could complete. And then there are a bunch waiting for me in Lakeshire. And then...

I should be able to do VC this weekend and am contemplating a run on Sunday evening.

I was just trying to get the Van Cleef part of the Defias Brotherhood quest. I am up to the traitor but it appears to be bugged. Nobody can get him to move. We tried going full party and solo. We tried abandoning and retaking. Nothing we did would get him to move. I guess the rest of the Brotherhood must really have him scared. I am always up for a fun grouping like last night. I just can't get credit for Van Cleef until the problem gets fixed. I ticketed it but I think they have already gotten many from what I see in general chat.

Van Cleef - Dyntheos - 12-06-2004

Just tried VC in a 2 man party, me a 28th Priest and a 31st Druid.

Getting to the bosses wasn't too bad, but each boss fight at each set of doors was fun.

Mr Smite was touch and go, and so was VC himself, but I think we did alright for a 2 man slog fest.

Would have been more worth while if we had gotten some experience fromt he kills along the way.

Yes, he was like this for months in the beta as well. I'm sure they're well aware of it by now. :)

The traitor is fixed and is very, very popular. VC has gone the way of all flesh yet again, at the cost of a gallant gnome mage.

To whom would you be referring? Following my demise to that turds dying swipe, I was thinking about the fun I had just had. I came to the conclusion that running the VC instance twice with different groups of Lurkers, even though I couldn't get credit the first time and lost the credit to death the second, was the most fun I have had in a computer game anywhere, anytime, ever. I have to run it again? Boo hoo! Now if I can just find an artisan alchemist to train me to expert and a recipe for bigger mana potions, all will be good. If I had just had a bigger mana potion, I wouldn't have run out and I could have arcane missled him the one more time he needed to go down.

If anyone runs it again, there's a little squishy guy that very much needs to put him down and dance on his corpse.

And I feel terrible about that. If I had been able to keep all of the rogues on me we wouldn't have had him running rampant through the squishy ranks. Alas though I lost track of the sheeped one who unpopped and decided to go after the priest. I've gotten a faster sword from the run last night and hopefully with improved Seal of Fury I will be able to attack fast enough to keep all the rogues on me in the next fight.

Now to convince the wife to allow me to run VC two nights in a row....

I think Lochnar has already finished, but if we can get a full group together in the next couple of days, Fafner did the traitor tonight and is axious to give Van Cleef a try.

He has but he would be willing to go again. Although he is too old to get much xp from it, he would gladly escort you through. It might better to take a group of characters closer to the level of the instance though. It is surprising how much difference even just a couple levels make. I am already finding so many areas where the monsters that are now just annoyances were once major battles.

Van Cleef - WarLocke - 12-17-2004

Wentil just got the quest to get Van Cleef's head earlier today, so assuming level 20 is high enough for the Deadmines, I'd love to get a group together to do it.

Van Cleef - Warlock - 12-31-2004

I just ran VC myself for the first time (not counting an abortive attenpt with a group that disintegrated before even reaching the instance). We had three Paladins (22, myself 21, 16), a Hunter (24) and a Warlock (22). We wiped early in the instance but were able to continue thanks to a soulstone on a Paladin, then went more carefully and reached the final battle with only a couple of individual res's needed. We wiped again there once, again being saved by the soulstone.

Great fun. Easier than I had expected after reading the descriptions here, I had been doubtful that we would manage with three tanks and no primary healer - was this quest tweaked down a little after beta? Or are Paladins really as overpowered as the whining on the Blizzard forums indicates? At the dizzy heights of level 21 to me they look better solo but worse in groups than the more specialised Warrior and Priest.

The 16 annoyed me, among other things rushing ahead a couple of times and attracting attention we weren't ready for then rolling for every item, but I stuck with the group to finish the instance (and the single magic item I obtained from the run was it's best drop, a big blue axe, so I shouldn't complain too loudly.) I guess three good players out of four other party members is pretty good for a pickup group :)

I think it has been toned down for release. Didn't all those silly miners and diggers in there used to be elite?

Yes, they were once all elite. VC is considerably easier now than during beta. Until the last patch or so, it was pretty difficult to complete VC unless the party was in its high 20s. The quest had gone green by then and , from the standpoint of reward, was hardly worth doing when you were reasonably capable of doing it. It still seems pretty tough once you get down to the ship but, thankfully, it is a more manageable quest at the "right" time.

I don't know, Ehlianna went through the instance a couple days ago with Littledude, Mentat, and two pubbies (paladin & priest), and we only had a handful of areas that I would consider as being hard (Van Cleef, Mr. Smite, and one or two bad pulls).

Heck, I was playing primary healer (the priest would occasionally drop a heal, but more often was nuking) and I didn't even have to heal often at all except for the aforementioned hard fights.

Maybe level 22-24 is a bit high for the instance, I guess.

Van Cleef - Warlock - 01-01-2005

Almost everything in the instance Elite? Oooo, that would make a difference!

Which racial starting area has the earliest (in character level) instance for a character concentrating on quests? I know there is a mid teens one for one of the horde races, but I've played all the alliance areas past that and only seen the VC instance. So I'm wondering if I've missed something.
