I like the mysterious sign that says, "TEMP." What could it mean?!

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - Sabra - 03-27-2012

It doesn't matter if I am on my laptop or my gaming box, the lag is crippling for me, so much so that I am still in the starting area. This was true on Hamkuula and on Lost Isles as well.

And when I say crippling, I mean crippling. It's like doing the old DI cha cha, where you'd take a few steps and end up back where you started. I cannot even navigate accurately unless I do it step by step.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled and run the repair utility. Still the same. I have turned down the graphics and other effect, still the same.

My boxes are both compatible and my gaming box exceeds the requirements so it's not coming from that end.

With determination, I have only managed to make it to the first area with a mailbox.

Very distressing and I don't know what to do at this point.

Any input much appreciated.

Mine keeps whining at me that I don't have directx 9.0c installed and it cant start the 3d acceleration, but the game plays great for me.
I wonder if that might be hurting you

Pretty sure that I saw that was from a bad Agent build. It also does that to some people on the D3 beta that also uses Agent. For me, it is constantly launching two copies of whichever game I start the beta on. I have to wait a bit for both to launch and then alt-tab to the one I am not using to close it and conserve some my computers resources.

I also had the directx9.0 message and got it side stepped for now by switching from full screen to using full screen window. I think it improved performance some too, but now sure.

I don't get any errors or load messages. Did I mention that I even reinstalled the game on my laptop. Maybe I did that over night last night. Still just horrible.

Edit here: So I remembered that I could display my latentcy and fr - no kidding, my average fps is about 5 fps. So something is terrible wrong here. I have seen it as low as 3 fps. Doing the Crossing the ropes quest was an agony that pretty much has me in tears. So long MOP for now.

Editted again: Finally got Gabe's attention and he told me to try the slide bar for my setting. Worked well enough to get me out of the starting area. So now I'll try a Shammy and see if it still holds up.

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - Bolty - 03-28-2012

Sabra, I'm assuming standard WoW doesn't run like this for you, so there has to be some setting in the MoP client that's borking things up for you. Have you browsed through the MoP Tech Support forum at Blizzard to see who else has similar problems? Blizzard would obviously be very eager to hear about your issues; that's one of the purposes of these beta invites, after all. If you're having this hard a time, that means someone else has to be too.

MoP's texture quality is higher than Cataclysm WoW, but it's not so much higher that it would just crush a computer that can play current WoW just fine. Blizzard would not alienate its current user base like that intentionally.

I'm guessing that the beta client doesn't pull over your preferences from live. Going through the settings to try to match them up to the live client might help.
Also, try the "optimize network" option in the networking panel... I think it defaults on, and if you want it off, it's usually a bad thing when it's on.

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - Sabra - 03-28-2012

Hi Bolty and Sham: Well as a I mentioned Gabe fixed me up by using the slide bar in the advanced options, but I will show him these posts and ask him to consider the changes you have both suggested. Colors and textures I'm experiencing are not as attractive as the ones in regular Wow, but they are quite acceptable to me. I do want to mention that this was true of my ripper of a gaming box as it was on my laptop.

Bolty I searched the forums for terms like fps, frames per second, frame rate, latency and lag. It didn't result in much and nothing of use. I browsed at topics and found nothing related to similar issues. Overall everyone seems to be having a pretty darned good time.

Sham, will take some screenies, and compare the one set of preferences to the other, but I believe that mine are very vanilla and I bet that might be what Gabe did last night. He is very very good at this stuff.

Love you guys. Thanks for the concern. And Bolty. It's really time for a new photos of Mini Bolty. Maybe we have one please?

Thread derailment incoming...but the graphics on Mini-Bolty are really quite high-res. He has a level of expression that is significantly higher than the older Human models, similar to that of the Pandaren. He even has his pet out!

I call foul! No way is that a mini-Bolty. What picture frame did that come from? That's a really cute kid.

Sorry, someone had to point that out. Everyone is living in such fear of the Bolt there is no way any of you would speak up and call him on it!

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - SoulEdge - 03-29-2012

Oooh, cute kid (and pet)!

Mrs Bolty must have dominant gene. Tongue

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - shoju - 03-29-2012

Human Hunters. Added to the game strictly for Mr. Bolty.

Better watch out, that kids a master of mogging. Look at that outfit! Splendid!

Smile

Cute Kid. I miss those days sometimes.

Bolty, he is well worth a brief derailment. Maybe even two! Thank you so much! What a cute guy! Love the little index fingers touching. I promised myself I wouldn't gush, so I won't. Not sure, but I think only Tal can confirm if he takes after The Old Man.

If he were tall, dark haired and asian it would be a dead ringer for Bolty.

From WoWWiki:

WoWWiki Wrote:Azeroth has two moons:

The larger, bright and silver moon is known as the White Lady. The night elves know and worship it as Elune while the tauren refer to it as Mu'sha (the left eye of the Earthmother) in Sorrow of the Earthmother.

The smaller cool, blue-green moon is known as the Blue Child. The "Blue Child" is currently not visible in WoW, though it once was. It was removed from the game at the release of The Burning Crusade, possibly due to a graphical error, but has yet to return.

In the MoP beta, the Blue Child is back.

Lore nerds are pointing out something. Pandaren were originally going to be the Alliance race in TBC, and they were eventually scrapped for the Draenei. The Blue Child was removed at that time. Pandaren are now back, and so is the extra moon. Whattup with that?

In before 5.2 moon raid!

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - LavCat - 03-30-2012

I can't help thinking of Renfray's painting. I almost want to cry.

Which faction are Pandaren now?

Both. You choose at the end of the Pandaren starting zone the faction you belong to.

I almost want to say:

YOU STOLE MY IDEA!

As I had posted something along these lines on Maintankadin a few years ago when talking about my idea for Satyr/ogre as playable races.

But then, I'm sure I'm not the only player who has ever thought about that.

RE: Let's Talk MoP Beta - Bolty - 03-30-2012

They present it quite well, too. The Pandaren starting area will quickly have you interacting with two distinct NPCs. One of them dresses primarily in blue, and teaches serenity and meditation to find solutions to problems. The other dresses primarily in red, and teaches the benefits of decisive action to quickly resolve a situation.

Both run into problems: the blue NPC takes too long to decide on a proper course of action, leading to strife. The red NPC dives in too quickly and makes a poor decision as a result. The color scheme and attitude are very easily recognizable as Alliance vs. Horde, and eventually after many quests with the two of them, you will pick one or the other. The faction you pick will have that aligned NPC escort you to your faction home city to get started post level 10-ish. It's pretty well done, although missing cutscenes and such still that will improve the flow of the transition.

I'd like to see lorewise how they can explain why Alliance Pandaren cannot understand Horde Pandaren. They are given separate languages in the game for obvious reasons. So while Dwarves may have the language "Dwarven," Pandaren will have "Horde Pandaren" or somesuch.
