Ok, so if you're reading this, you don't mind being spoiled or have played through Act 1 in the Diablo 3 beta. Now, on to some of the questions that the lore has brought up.
We know that Diablo is going to take a female host this time and there has been general pointing to it possibly being Leah from the released trailers that Blizzard has put out, but given the lore entries found in Act 1 involving Gillian and Adria, I'm thinking that Gillian is going to be the actual host for Diablo given he nightmare comments in her journal entry (second journal, has to be found on a second or third playthrough of Act 1 on the same character after finding the first journal entry). It makes sense that Gillian would be the choice. She's there during Diablo 1 and can probably feel the pull of Diablo. She's having nightmares which Adria tries to help her alleviate and Adria is heading out in search of Aiden.
It now appears that the Wanderer has a name from the information gleaned in Act 1, that being Aiden. Aiden is the older son of Leoric and was apparently romantically involved with Adria, potentially being Leah's father (as Leah is Adria's daughter and Leah mentions that her father was a great warrior which Aiden was). After defeating Diablo in Diablo 1, Aiden places the soulstone in his forehead and leaves in order to try to contain Diablo, but apparently not before conceiving Leah with Adria.
Leah to be either the final Horadrim or restart the order. It appears that Cain has been grooming Leah to take his place when he dies. Leah has been taking in the information of the Horadrim and cataloguing it for Cain. He continues to teach her about the Horadrim and it looks as if she will be the final Horadrim or will restart the order as Diablo 3 progress.
Adria will likely appear again in a later act. Will she be alive, dead, corrupted is not known yet, but she appears to be in the game still from what has been found. It is likely, not as likely as Gillian, that she could be Diablo's vessel in Diablo 3.
It appears that Wirt's involvement in the cathedral with the villagers and the Butcher changed him for the worse. According to a journal entry, Wirt was a "sweet boy" prior to the massacre. Somehow I don't see it, but hey, it could happen. Life events can radically change a person's outlook and Wirt could be no different.
Gheed ends up getting killed prior to the start of Diablo 3 on a trek back to New Tristram. You find his corpse with a journal entry stating that the trade is drying up between New Tristram and Lut Gholein and his caravan is attacked on the outskirts of New Tristram.
So, thoughts from others that have played through the D3 beta?
