Perfectly legal, and not terribly difficult to do.
First off, you'll need to make a 1:1 exact copy of the disc to your Hard Drive. CloneCD, Nero, EasyCD Creator, DiscJuggler, and many other programs are capable of doing this, and I know that at the very least, CloneCD has a demo available.
Once you have the 1:1 copy, head to http://www.daemon-tools.com/ and download Daemon Tools. This program will allow you to "mount" the image of the CD on a virtual drive.
