Not the char stats, but the item codes. Every item you find has its own unique code (think if it as a sort of virtual DNA for each and every item). They usually looks something like this for example: 1E56458A91. No two items, even the same exact item with the same stats, will ever have the same code unless they are dupes. This is how scanners (such as Diablo Guard) are used to check people are suspected of cheating, by checking the codes of said peoples gear against a common dupes list. This isn't a big deal, but almost everyone on Trist is legit, and should the codes on their gear be made public or accessible in some way, this would allow anyone, with the right program (such as an item editor), to re-create those items by typing that code into it, and thus having illegal copies of the original owners items.

I am not sure if making the source code for DStats would do this, but I suspect it could somehow.
