Depends how you feel about the trading post (when it's actually working.) You can save yourself some hassle and buy materials for very cheap, or just outright buy the top end crafted armors. I think the only thing you really can't buy is legendary weapons.
If you are being some economic purist, then yes crafting is probably one of the "easier" ways to get top end gear. Supposedly the Orr armor doesn't require all that much Karma grind though.
