Cathleen Kaveny" is very well put. I also feel that "hate crime" is a fundamentally flawed premise, and needs to be extricated from American legal lexicon. Each crime tends to have a motive and a method, but the act itself is a crime, and the hate either is or is not part of the motive. Method can corroborate assertions of motive in some cases.
