Player Casinos Banned in World of Warcraft
#1
After the recent rapid rise in the practice of player gambling using the /random command and the accompanying spam in the chat channels that came with it, Blizzard finally put its foot down and declared that "casinos are no longer allowed in World of Warcraft."

I'm certainly glad to see the spam gone from the chat channels, but there is a part of me that's saddened by it. The casinos were after all, "player created content," and some of the gambling games were pretty enterprising. Most used standard high-volume gambling techniques that gave the house an advantage but not by so much that one could complain about being completely ripped off. For example, one common game was to have a player do a /random 13 with the house winning on odds and the player winning on evens. Some did /random 1000 with various increasing payoffs as the roll got closer to 1000. Like I said, I'm glad to see the spam gone, but it'd be nice to have more legitimate avenues available that would allow people to create content like this. Kind of a player housing concept, except that maybe a person could setup an automated shop with lots of available script automation possibilities.

(Just thinking out loud).
