Mongo, I've wanted to thank you for some time for this wonderful topic, which I first read as if it were a wonderful, illustrated children's book.
Tonight I ventured to Lightbringer to chat with my friend Thenryb. We've been playing some low levels together over there. When I arrived he was busy with another character, we chatted a bit and then I ran the "Delivery to Stormwind" quest.
As I was exiting the city over the bridge, there at the far end I saw Reginald Windsor surrounded by maybe 16 players. Well, it was as if someone had nailed my character's feet to the ground! I wasn't going to miss a moment of this.
I read the dialogue, gasped as Marcus came forward. Watched the guard drop a knee and walked behind the players during the escort. Most of the players were level 60s, and I was amused that most of them seemed unaware that you use the "/" key with NumLock in order to walk. :)
But that's about the only thing I can flaw them for. Read on.
When we arrived at the boy king's hall, I stood in the hallway and used my camera zoom for a good view of the ensuing battle. Of the 16 or so players, about 12 went into the throne room proper, mostly meleers and dps characters. 4 or 5 healers stayed in the hallway and did their work from there. (Of course, they'd probably had the benefit of this thread to plan.) They were highly organized and took up their posts as if everything had been carefully arranged.
What came next was the most thrilling battle I've ever seen in gaming. Just as you described it, but with live action. Even having watched it go down, I can't imagine what it must have been like to have been in a fight like that. The longest fight I've ever seen, and it was managed by the players with what appeared to be military precision. The players triumphed. So much for ignorance of the walk function!
It was a joy and a thrill to watch, and I'm thankful to you, Mongo, and to this thread for making me aware of the fact that this quest existed.
