You can conceivably lump together as a squadron and take on some AI-controlled opponents in a mission.
And you don't need to fly, either. Many of the flyable crates have at least a back-seat gunner (think of the T-47s on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back) and you can hitch a ride aboard the Heinkel and the Russian TB-3 bombers and man a gun position instead of piloting.
The real downer, though: the version 2.01 patch is 102 megabytes in size. Good news is, the patch isn't about fixing game-killing bugs or whatnot, but rather instead offers new maps, new campaigns, and adds some more airplanes. Version 2.02 fixes some glitches with the newly-added planes and clocks in at only 20 MB (though you need to have the 2.01 monster installed in order to apply 2.02 properly)
