The analog sticks on the Dreamcast and Playstation controllers were unusable for fighting games, but I find the GameCube's to be better than any D-Pad. Not entirely sure why the difference, but being set into an octagon instead of a circle certaintly contributes (and was pure genius on Nintendo's part).
