A Few Words From Not Quite The Front

This thread gives a bit of his history. It comes up in many of his other posts as well about the work with NATO and the time spent in Germany. Maybe I've just been around here too long. :)


I always see MRE, three lies in one, the are not Meals, they are not Ready, and you can't Eat them and get a chuckle. As a kid I called them "Happy Meals" when my Dad had a few extra to bring home after some time in the field. I enjoyed them. When I started my stint in the National Guard, I had a leg up in basic because I already knew what you wanted to trade for or stay away from. I didn't really mind them that much as they were only occasional, heck I still kinda enjoyed them. Then I finally got my first 2 week stint where at least one meal and usually 2 meals, and sometimes all meals, a day were MRE's and I understood all the old soldiers sayings. I still like to get one every now and again. They are a novel break and have nostalgia attached to them now. My wife still enjoys them and we have both developed cravings for the cheese spread! :)
