Don't play in public games!
Play only with people you know you can trust in private games.
When you get more experienced you begin to develop a certain feeling for other players and most of the time you can see if they're legit or not. Most of the GPoW users can be detected instantly by just looking at them.
If someone you don't know enters a public game of yours don't send them a tp instantly and/or tell them your exact position (dungeon level). Most of them are too dumb to find you if they don't know where you are.
Or play a naked mage. That way they can kill you as much as they want. Because you have no items at all, it doesn't matter at all.
And always try to play as legit as possible. No use of external programs and don't trust stragners that want to give you the best items in the game for free...they are most likely dupes/hacks/other crap.
Edit: Yogi was first...I forgot the tp-block which is a great method of toying with cheaters.
Most of them call -you- a cheater when they find out that they can not possibly get to you...kinda funny.
