A lot of the classic sets are actually very useful to mageazons (and basically most other builds) in their early stages... there're just too many to list! For instance, angelic rings+amulet+armour will give you +1 skill, +50 mana, vulpine effect, +115 life, +50% fire res, heaps of AR and MF amidst other okay mods.
@ Animation:
Skin of Vipermagi can give you +1 skills and up to 35% res all (socket for more resists if needed or skull for regen). Also, you could get very good single resists from boots and your ring slot. If you're able to part with the +skills on the amulet slot, it's also possible to get some decent resists overall without using the helm slot:
- 30% : anya bonus
- 35% : skin of vipermagi
- 25% : amulet
- 35% : single resists on boots
- 30% : single resists on rings

155% --> 55% in hell
Add in a socket for resists or a few charms and you would be able to get maxed resists in hell for the more important resists. Generally, I find myself tending to focus on fire and lightning resists and would be content to have about 0 cold and poison resists in hell, so most of my rings and boots will have large quantities of those two resists.
All these without affecting your choice of bows (I'll still stick with Kuko though for the lower requirements, +skills and fire damage.
