Gnollguy hits it right on the head. You'll get plenty of enjoyment out of the game. Wait for the Inferno nerfs to come in before going there or you'll get burned out hard. If you have to upgrade your computer to play it, though, I'm not sure if that would be worth it. Also, Diablo games by nature are a lot more fun with friends (and Lurkers!). Get some to buy it with you!
