California is in the unique position of suffering from too much democracy. We have ballot initiatives here, and they make havoc with the operation of the State. One side is successful in squashing any attempt to pay for the socialist state enacted by the other. In the long run, both sides lose. I'm more in favor of ideas like CSPAN, where voters can see their morons in action.
