Quote:If you check the stats you will see that the Spurs committed fewer fouls during the course of the regular season than any other team in the NBA. They are a quality team of veterans with no need to injure other players. Don't buy into Amare's whining.
In fact, in 2005 Tim Duncan injured his ankle severely when he came down and landed on the foot of Rasheed Wallace.
Alram, as I said earlier I'm a fan of the Spurs. But Lissa has a strong argument, to a point. Bowen is the king of jamming his feet under shooters. Do a search on him on youtube if you don't believe me, there are plenty of montages showing just how 'accidental' they really are. Every sport has a number of athletes like Bowen (and he's certainly not the only one in he NBA to commit backhanded moves like this), and it is frustrating to watch.
Aside from Bowen though, I really don't see the Spurs as any different than any other NBA team. And yes, I did watch the sun's series, and no, I still am not changing my mind. Sure, I got up off the couch and yelled when Nash was thrown into the boards. But it's the playoffs, and everyone is emotional.
To be honest, I don't fully understand the arguments that fighting/fouling/pushing/shoving gets 'in the way of the game' (this is a tangent, not directed at you Lissa in any way). Name a time when the sport was played without it? I remember turning 12 and getting fouled hard - a lot. From then on I realized all sports involve a level of physical play.
Gratuitous displays are going to happen. Kobe Bryant isn't going to stop elbowing people in the throat. Does that mean I don't think he shouldn't be punished? No. Sure, send him a fine, possibly make him sit a few games. But I don't see event's like that as a call to be 'more strict' and 'severe' with fines. Look, fining the crap out of Kobe and making him sit for 10 weeks isn't going to make him any less of an a--. The last thing sports fandom needs is the leagues becoming overly strict for 'our sake'. Please. It's the emotion in Spurs/Suns series that makes me such a fan.
Cheers,
Munk
