...the term "newbs", and all its variations, has taken on multiple meanings. It can be used in a derogitory sort of way, as was its original intent (or perhaps that was of a more jocular nature; *shrug*). But, these days, it just as much means "new, inexperienced character" as it does "new, inexperienced player". But, then, since you don't play on Realms, and haven't had as much experience with Diablo II, I guess you wouldn't have picked up on that.
Hell, I myself am so totally out when it comes to lingo and culture on the Realms, due to my (over a year now) inactivity on them, but I managed to pick up that little tidbit through the course of time. "Newbs" still does stand for "new player", but its meaning has taken on new sides these days.
